Winnipeg to host Western Canada Economic Forum 2026

Discussion themes to include economic growth, interprovincial trade, public and industry sentiment in Western Canada

December 9, 2025 – Winnipeg, Manitoba will host the third annual Western Canada Economic Forum (WCEF) on January 22, 2025, at the Fairmont Hotel, followed by invite-only leadership roundtable discussions on January 23.

WCEF is the premier forum providing a national stage for business leaders and changemakers from across Western Canada to discuss opportunities and challenges for economic growth. The forum brings together experts whose combined insight spans natural resources, energy, trade and other key sectors, offering a clear view of the forces shaping the region.

Key themes and discussion points for WCEF 2026 include:

Western Canada’s economic outlook and growth trajectory

Discussions will examine demographic trends, investment patterns and provincial strategies influencing the region’s economic direction. A focus will be placed on access to capital, SME growth and diversifying markets beyond the United States. WCEF 2026 will also feature the second annual release of Westernomics: An Economic Outlook for Western Canada, a special report prepared for the forum by Deloitte.

Interprovincial trade and global market access

The forum will explore how federal policy, investment and intergovernmental collaboration can support market access and long-term stability for the West. Conversations will highlight the role of interprovincial trade and global market access in driving Western prosperity, along with the financing and infrastructure needed to support business expansion.

Western issues, sentiment and political realities

Insights from several Canadian business associations and think tank organizations will shed light on Western viewpoints, regional tensions and the policy implications of shifting political dynamics at both federal and provincial levels.

WCEF 2026 will also introduce two new initiatives: IMPACT 100, an annual ranking of the 100 largest companies in Western Canada, and The West20, a recognition program highlighting emerging leaders in economic development across the region.

“Bringing WCEF to Winnipeg this year is especially meaningful,” said Alex Fallon, Founder & Chair, WCEF. “As a major North American trade and transportation hub, this city plays a vital role in connecting Western Canada to global markets. With so much change happening around us, this is exactly the moment to highlight the region’s advantages, dig into the challenges ahead and ensure Western Canada remains competitive and resilient.”

By fostering thoughtful dialogue and cross-sector collaboration, WCEF is proud to contribute to the strategic planning and partnerships that will strengthen Western Canada’s long-term growth.
